DevTeach vous offre un événement spécial relatif aux outils Microsoft Business intelligence.
Cette formation de deux jours aura lieu en anglais à Montréal au Maritime Hôtel du 10 au 11 septembre.
Business Intelligence is one of the topmost IT priorities and is increasingly pervasive within
organizations large and small. Business Intelligence touches many aspects of our daily lives,
from enhancing our online and retail shopping experience to the healthcare we receive.
BI also impacts the quality of decisions that business leaders make. For businesses,
BI is no longer a luxury, but a necessity to survive in an increasingly competitive marketplace.
This 2 day boot camp has been designed to give you a head start in Business Intelligence practice.
You will acquire fundamental knowledge of Business Intelligence and dimensional modeling along
with understanding on how to use the various Microsoft SQL Server technologies to implement a BI solution.
These understanding of these technologies will be refined by the hands-on labs through which you
will build a complete BI solution from ground up by the end of day 2. You are not required to
have deep knowledge of BI or any of the Microsoft SQL Server 2005 technologies that we will use
to implement a BI solution. However, a basic understanding of BI and a good foundation of relational
database theories and T-SQL is essential.
As we go through each module outlined, we will also spend a brief amount of time discussing best practices.
In this section we provide an introduction to the function and value of Business Intelligence in an organization. We also introduce the SQL Server Business Intelligence platform and discuss Microsoft’s Business Intelligence vision.
SSIS Overview
In this section we provide an overview of SSIS, the high performance data integration component of SQL Server. We also discuss ETL processing theory, including data warehousing and dimensional modeling theory/benefits. We also include exciting SSIS demos and discuss important SSIS objects & concepts including Packages, Control Flow, Data Flow, Connection Managers, Tasks and Containers.
Dimension Table Processing
In this section you will learn how to do dimension table processing. First, though, we review dimension table processing theory and introduce the Slowly Changing Dimension wizard/transformation – a powerful and important SSIS facility for dimension table processing.
Fact Table Processing
In this section you will learn how do fact table processing, including the use of powerful SSIS components such as Lookup and Derived Column. We begin, though, with a review of fact table processing theory.
Additional SSIS Features
In this section we discuss additional features of SSIS that are valuable to typical SSIS ETL solutions. These features include important SSIS concepts such as Event Handling & Error Logging, Package Configurations & Deployment and Package Scheduling.
SSAS Overview
In this section we provide an overview of SSAS, the component of SQL Server that delivers online analytical processing (OLAP) and data mining functionality for BI applications. We discuss the key SSAS concepts of OLAP and the Unified Dimensional Model (UDM). We also include an exciting SSAS demo and discuss measures and dimensions.
Cubes
During this section we discuss many of the facilities of cubes and cube design/management including how to create and edit them and how to process and deploy them. We also discuss important SSAS concepts such as Data Sources & Data Source Views, Dimensions, Measures & Measure Groups, MDX Calculations, Key Performance Indicators (KPIs),
Actions, etc
Additional Analysis Services Features
In this section we discuss several important additional features of SSAS that are found in a typical SSAS deployment such as the use of Display Folders, Multi-Level Hierarchies and Attribute Relationships. We also discuss facilities for automating cube processing/administration.
SSRS Overview
In this section we provide an overview of SSRS, SQL Server’s reporting platform. We discuss critical SSRS components such as Report Server, Report Designer and Report Builder and review important report design basics. We also incorporate an exciting SSRS demo to whet the appetite!
Report Designer
During this section we discuss this full-featured authoring tool and show you how to use it to report against a UDM and how to publish reports to the report server. We also show you how to add advanced reporting options such as grouping and interactivity (hidden items).
Report Builder
In this section we discuss this end-user/ad-hoc reporting tool. We show you how to use it to report against a UDM as well as how to publish reports to the report server.
Microsoft Project REAL
Our labs leverage Microsoft Project REAL concepts and data. Project REAL is the reference implementation for SQL Server 2005 BI that Microsoft developed using Barnes and Noble (B & N) data. We use Project REAL as a basis instead of Adventure Works in order to leverage the best practices cultivated during the development of the reference implementation.
For example, we use the B & N source/operational data in our SSIS/ETL processing section, the B & N warehouse data to develop/load our SSAS UDM/cube, and we report against the Project REAL Warehouse UDM/cube in our SSRS section.
In order to complete the labs, you will need a machine. Here are your options. Please read the requirements of each option carefully. If you do not have a machine ready during training, you will not be able to work on any of the labs in class.
Rent a laptop from DevTeach. The amount of laptop is limited. Then you will need to install the required
software. Read our section #2 of our documentation for more details. For Rental call Jean-Rene Roy at 514 512-7638
-->
Bring your own laptop and use a pre-configured Virtual Machine image for your labs. At a minimum,
you will need 1.5 GB RAM on your laptop to consider this option. If you do not have at least 1.5GB RAM,
please consider Option 3 or Option 1. If you are using this option, please refer to the setup
instructions listed in Section 1 titled “Setup Instructions for Using VM”. You must complete the
setup instructions prior to coming to class.
Install the required software on your personal laptop. You are required to have your
machine setup and configured as per the instructions listed in Section 2
“Setup Instructions for Windows XP Pro & Windows Server 2003 R2” prior to coming to class.
- Download our documentation to know which software you need to install.
